Fallen Empires?

Ancient Cultures?

Discovery Channel feature films?

Daria fandom is dead?

Well, to avoid using Zappa quotes about the vapours it emitts, letīs just say: Itīs the end of the world as we know it. Damn. I really wanted to avoid these Pop culture references, but...

I feel fine

I wonīt repeat what the knight in slimey armour, Lord Cincy the green, said about the demise of fandom. I believe there is a chance for fandom to exist without controversy. Look at the Passion Club. It definitely silenced the naysayers of Daria porn - unfortunately silencing the less-gifted pornwriters as well - by being accepted great fiction. We still donīt know who Gystex is, but to call his/her other work "mainstream" to discriminate it against PC just doesnīt seem right. With very few exceptions thereīs nothing more mainstream than the PC series. Kara could be very complacent, since Iīve never heard a single bad word about the DWU, but her latest work still shows her qualities as a writer.

So what died?

Controversy died. The PPMBers ignore the SRMB for the most part, the SRMBers ignore the PPMB. Those who frequent both places were not the ones that fought. As the person who put up the SRMB, I am pleased with this situation. I see the PPMB members jumping ship, talking about old times and the way things were. The hell I will call the SR community. Itīs just a place where people can meet without a big eye in the sky. I remember the way it was when I was in high school...

...Weīd meet at luchbreak. These interesting people and me. People knew who we were, we left them to judge on their own. We just were. We laughed at the morons, but we didnīt look down upon them. Let them be, for that extra inches of sight youīll need to stand on their shoulders as well. And we did. In the one minute of luck Iīve had in my entire life I found them all. Thereīs the exception that wrecks the stats locally and I was in it. We were, what? 10%. At least.

Excuse that SD style ramling.

Sorry SD, I donīt look down on you, just because you were deprived of a certain level of guidance in your life. Youīll look back on your time on the PPMB one day and laugh. Long and hard.

Back to the SR. I guess some of you will stay here post mortem. Thank you for that.

Further back to fandom as whole.

There wonīt be much left in 5 years. Scorched Remnants, Scatered remains, Rotting bones and decaying ashes - Leftovers of a civilization long past. What will the archeologists find out from those little blotches of anarchy? What herritage will fandom leave? When MTV deletes those Daria pages. When Geocities deletes CGs account. When Dick and Martin stop to pay those ISP bills?

Hope you had, have and will have a good time while this lasts, too.
