The Fashion Cult
By Thomas
Authors note: In "Fat Like Me" we see Quinn, Stacy and Tiffany talk about
fashion without Sandi. But assuming thats not all they did. What else did
they talk about.
(Quinn's room. The Fashion Club, minus Sandi, is having a meeting. Quinn
has just resigned. Stacy is crying)
Quinn: Hey guys. You've managed without me before, remember. Just think of what you did before I moved here.
Stacy: But then we had Sandi.
Quinn: Okay. Then think of what you did before you had Sandi.
Tiffany: You mean the dark ages of our lives?
Quinn: The what?
Stacy: Thats what we call the time before Sandi bought us enlightenment.
Tiffany: We lived our life in fear.
(Flashback. Five years earlier. The playground of Lawndale Middle School.
Jamie and Joey are holding Stacy and Tiffany in a firm grip. Jeffy is holding
a big toad towards them.
Jeffy: Go on. Kiss it. You know you want to.
(Stacy and Tiffany screams)
Jamie: I told you Stacy could scream louder than Tiffany. You owe me five bucks.
Tiffany: They were like demons.
Stacy: But that wasn't the worst. You see in those days we couldn't pick our own clothes. We, like, had to wear what our parents gave us.
Tiffany: We lived a life in clogs.
(Flashback. Stacy and Tiffany are standing at a clothes hanger inside
Cashman's. Tiffany is wearing clogs. Stacy is wearing a sweater thats so
big its covering her mouth)
Tiffany: My mom gave me clogs. What did your mom give you?
Stacy: (trough the sweater) Mhe mave me mhis mweater.
Tiffany: What?
Stacy: But then in our darkest hour we saw Sandi. And immediately we recognized
that her parents had given her a special gift.
Tiffany: They had given her a credit card.
(Flashback. Cashman's. Sandy is standing at the cash register.
Sandi: I would like to pay for this halter dress. (hands Teresa a credit card)
(Cut to Stacy and Tiffany)
Tiffany: That girl. She has her own credit card.
Stacy: Mut mats mimpossible
Stacy: We then walked over to her, and when Sandi saw us she took pity
on us and used her card to deliver us.
Tiffany: She brought us salvation.
(Flashback. Cashman's. Tiffany is wearing shoes. Stacy is wearing a blouse)
Tiffany: Hey. I can walk without shame.
Stacy: I can talk. I was mute but now I can talk.
Stacy: Then we went to Sandi's house.
Tiffany: We had become her followers.
(Flashback. Sandi's room. Sandi is sitting on a chair. Stacy and Tiffany
are sitting on the floor. Sandi is reading to them from "Waif")
Sandi: And I saw a homeless man rise from the trash, and he wore ten pairs of drawstring pants and a blouse with seven horizontal stripes and each stripe was made with ten primary colors, and on each stripe was written the names of the unpopular.
Quinn: (skeptical) Stacy, are you sure thats the way it happened?
Stacy: You mean you think I'm making it up? Oh god what's wrong with me. I can't separate fantasy from reality anymore. (starts crying and storms out of the room)
Quinn: You should probably go after her.
Tiffany: You think so?
Quinn: Tiffany. You're the president now. You have to keep the club together.
Tiffany: You think so?
Quinn: (beat) Yes.
(Tiffany leaves. Daria enters)
Quinn: What do you want in here?
Daria: I was just wondering if your club still exist?
Quinn: Um... Yeah. Tiffany and Stacy will try and keep the Fashion Club alive without me.
Daria: (smirks) Good.
Quinn: Daria. Can I ask you something?
Daria: You just did.
Quinn: Do you ever get the feeling like your friends are utterly insane?
Daria: No. All of Jane's split personalities seem sane to me.
